Privacy Policy — Cozy Weather
Last updated: June 3, 2026
Cozy Weather (“the app”, “we”, “our”) is designed with privacy in mind. This policy explains what information the app uses and how it’s handled.
Summary
- We do not have servers and do not collect, sell, or share your personal information.
- Location access is optional. The app is fully functional without it.
- Your saved cities are stored only on your device.
- Weather data is provided by Apple’s WeatherKit. Radar imagery is provided by NOAA / the U.S. National Weather Service, with Iowa Environmental Mesonet (NEXRAD) used as a fallback when NOAA tiles are unavailable.
Location (optional)
If you grant the app permission to access your location, your approximate device location is used only to:
- Show weather conditions and forecasts for your current location.
- Display a localized map and radar view.
Your location is sent to Apple’s WeatherKit service to retrieve weather data. It is never sent to us or to any third party we control, and it is not stored by the app between sessions. If you deny or revoke location permission, the app continues to work normally — you can add any cities you want manually using the search feature.
Saved Cities
Cities you add via the search feature are stored locally on your device using the system’s standard preferences storage (UserDefaults). This data:
- Stays on your device.
- Is not transmitted to us.
- Is removed when you uninstall the app.
Place Search
When you search for a city to add, your search text is sent to Apple’s MapKit service to return matching places. We do not log, retain, or share your search queries.
Third-Party Services
The app relies on the following services to function:
- Apple WeatherKit — provides weather forecasts. Apple’s privacy practices apply to data sent through this service. See https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.
- Apple MapKit — provides place search and map tiles. Apple’s privacy practices apply.
- NOAA / National Weather Service — provides the primary U.S. base reflectivity radar mosaic. When the radar view is displayed, your map’s tile coordinates (not your personal location) are requested from NOAA’s public tile service.
- Iowa Environmental Mesonet (NEXRAD) — used as a fallback radar source if NOAA tiles are unavailable. Tile coordinate requests work the same way as for NOAA.
Data We Do Not Collect
Cozy Weather does not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any account information.
- Advertising identifiers.
- Analytics or usage tracking.
- Crash reports beyond Apple’s standard, opt-in App Store diagnostics.
Children’s Privacy
The app does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Your Choices
- Location: You can grant, deny, or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Cozy Weather. The app remains fully functional in any of these states.
- Saved cities: You can remove saved cities from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
Changes to This Policy
